Secure the Shelf to the Wall Use 4-in. lag or construction screws to secure the 1×8 back rim to the wall studs. Drive two screws into each stud—one high, one low. Step 5

Complete Assembling the Shelf Install the plywood top, bottom shelf and the 1Ă—2 and 1Ă—3 lips. Use construction adhesive for added strength. Step 4

Screw the Framework Together Use all-purpose screws (4-inch lag screws and 1-5/8 inch screws) to secure the 1Ă—8 back rim and 1Ă—2 front rim to the 2Ă—8 support block. Space the support blocks every 32 in. Step 3

Rip the Plywood Top to Width Use a homemade saw guide and a circular saw, or a table saw, to cut the plywood for the 16-in.-wide top shelf. Go to Step 2
